Abstract

Description

The establishment of long-term contracts for the supply of coal to Japan and Europe has turned Australia into a major coal exporter in recent years, with Queensland becoming the main producing state. Queensland's coal mining industry is centred on the Bowen Basin, and area approximately the size of England. Queensland currently produces about 21 000 000 tonnes of coal a year with about 16 000 000 tonnes going for export. Loosening coal by explosives in the coal seam at the Saraji open cut mine in central Queensland.
