Actually, the toys pictured in the preceding three slides are quite advanced in their conception even if their artistic form is somewhat simple, The same imagination w hich conceived of miniature animals as whistles and playthings produced more complex amusements an example of which is this gaming board and pieces looking very much like a chess board, The game was probably played with a type of dice cast to determine the number or sequence of moves on the board, A similar game involving such a throw of dice is still played in India today, In fact, the four possible types of casts give the Indian names to the Classical time periods, western equivalents use the names of precious metals instead: gold, silver, brass, iron,
