Abstract
Description
Flotillas of about five fishing boats hunt over the reef. Fish are driven into a net strung between two boats and the net is then closed. Fish sheltering in holes in the coral reef are extracted with the aid of a spear by and underwater swimmer. A portion of the catch is reserved for exchange with inland people for bananas and betel nuts. A large catch of a suitable species may be smoked and taken to the Port Moresby markets.
