Tapering, solidity and compactness all characterize this ultimate development of the temple styles at Kahjuraho as represented in this relatively small shrine of the Duladeo Temple. A single quadratic basement of pavement underlies the main temple, which has attached to it, in the form of a porch, its secondary temple. In the main tower, the secondary sikhara have risen almost to the level of the main spire, so that they no longer appear to climb it in dwarfed stages. They now attain a height balanced on all sides and give support to the topmost spire - with the appearance, we might suggest, or a more realistic mountain. Overall verticality is suggested through all the spires rather than the last central ones in this manner
dc.descriptionnote that the shafts appear to go all the way to the base from their traceable origins near the top. They do not, as in the case of the Devijagadambi Temple, for example, become lost in the cluster of secondary spires toward the base. Either the capstone has been completely omitted from this monument, or it has been removed by some manner or other
dc.descriptionbut, at any rate, we do not feel the cap would even be necessary in this temple
dc.descriptionfor the topmost spire, and those lending support to it, form a broad enough cap by themselves.
