Abstract
Description
A younger brother to Wu Wang and as his counsellor and assistant he aided him in establishing the dynasty of Chou (Zhou). He drew up a legal code, purified the morals of the people and devoted himself wholly to the welfare of the State. He is said to have invented the "south-pointing chariot", devised to assist some envoys from Tongking back to their own country. On the strength of this the discovery of the compass has been loosely credited to the Chinese.
