Abstract

View of Swan River and shoreline. The scene shows Mounts Bay Road which runs near to the water below the treed cliffs of Kings Park, and the Swan Brewery on Point Lewis. The brewery buildings, which include a tall, high roofed structure with an industrial chimney, were built in 1838 as mills for timber-cutting as well as flour-grinding. The Steam Mills, as they were known, were later taken over as a convict depot, then used as a tannery, then a restaurant. In 1879 the complex was acquired by the Swan Brewery Co. who sold it in 1979 for redevelopment.
