Abstract
22 October 1997. Martyn Jolly has rephotographed small details from images used to promote Australia overseas in the 1960s to create an idiosyncratic visual archaeology of Australia's recent past. Working with the News and Information Bureau collection held at the Australian Archives, he explores the way in which we rely on photographs to give us a sense of our past. Martyn Jolly is a photographer and writer who has exhibited and published widely; he is currently Head of the CSA Photomedia Workshop. His work is at the Archives Gallery, Old Parliament House, 20 September-20 October.
