Abstract

Photograph of the contents of a wooden box with a brass keyhole and two metal hook fasteners. The equipment includes scissors, tweezers, scalpel, safety pins, Bartleet & Co. surgical needles and rolls of bandaging fabric. There are also medicines such as that contained in a bottle labelled: CONCENTRATED/ FLEURS/ WOOD VIOLE-/Prepared by/ Robert Fren-/ GRASS-. Additionally, there are some jars of dark coloured powder or crystals. For thirteen years, William Ellis was examining fitter and fitter in charge of the Sydney accident train, so this box was probably kept in the train in readiness for attendance at accidents and derailments.
