Abstract

Description

After a period of meditating on the book, the Zen novice sits in meditation seeking the sudden insight which comes from disciplined meditation on the paradoxes posed by his master. As they meditate, one of them walks back and forth with a stick and if the novice finds that his mind has wandered, or he has dozed, or has had a distracting thought of food, or money, or women, or the like, he signals to the man with the stick and leans over for a good sharp rap to bring himself back to his meditation.
