Description

Although the Sun is worshipped daily by all devout Hindus, there are few images of Surya, the god of the Sun. This image is at Konarak, near Puri in eastern India, at a famous shrine to the Sun [that] is now an abandoned site, visited by pilgrims only once a year. This image was made about 1250 AD.
