Abstract

Description

This modern temple at Sarnath was completed in 1931 through the efforts of Buddhist missionaries from Ceylon. It houses relics of the Buddha given to the temple by the government of India from the finds at Nagarjunikonda, Taxila, and Mir Purkhas. On full-moon day of November, the anniversary of the dedication of the temple, ceremonies are held here at which the relics may be seen by the pilgrims who have come from all over the Buddhist world.
