Abstract

View looking along a major Albany street as it curves to follow the shoreline of Princess Royal Harbour which is one block away to the left. The large brick building on the left with a curved corner and stepped windows is the court house which was opened in February 1898. On the high side of the street are mostly two-storeyed commercial buildings, while below a bank with steps and a lookout and another road are houses. The majority of buildings have corrugated iron roofs and some of the houses also have corrugated iron walls. There are various signs painted on surfaces including: OFFORD'S ENGINEERING & CARRIAGE WORKS; CENTRAL COFFEE PALACE; MARK SOLOMON'S LONDON HOTEL; S. TAYLOR; WHITE HART HOTEL; THE UNION BANK OF AUSTRALIA LIMITED. Behind Solomon's is a large Gothic revival church and in the distance is Mount Melville. Show more
